We’re losing a lot of people this month. Two days ago we lost actress Susan Saint James at the age of 80. I always thought she held the look of the girl next door. Okay, she held the look of the gorgeous girl next door, and as an added bonus, she had a cool name. Susan was never that big of a star concerning the movie theater screen but she bounced around from TV show to TV movie to the point that everyone seemed to know who she was. Personally, I thought she looked a little like Kate Jackson of The Charlie’s Angels and Scarecrow and Mrs. King fame. Actually Susan Saint James could have fallen into either of those series. However, a lot of folks remember her from McMillan and Wife where she played Rock Hudson’s loving and crime solving wife, even though she was 21 years younger than Hudson.
To be truthful, I never watched that show, but I do remember her from one of my favorite 1980’s sitcoms, Kate & Allie where she played a single mom living with fellow single mom, Jane Curtin. I might have never watched the Cosby Show or Cheers back in those days, but I did religiously watch Kate & Allie for some reason. To be honest, I thought the girls playing their daughters were cute, but Susan St. James was quite the looker as well. Although she found her way onto the TV screen from 1967 through 2022, her biggest accomplishment was being a mother to five kids while doing all of that. Indeed, such would have made a good TV show in itself. R.I.P. Susan Saint James
